Step 1: The first step is to plug in the Linksys router into the electrical outlet. 

Step 2: After that, take an Ethernet cable and insert one end of the cable to the modem port.

Step 3: Insert another end of the Ethernet cable into the Internet port which is located at the backside of the Linksys router. 

Step 4: Next, connect your computer or laptop to the Linksys router with the help of the Ethernet cable. 

Note: Ensure that the Ethernet cable you are using for establishing the connection is not broken, damaged or torn. 

Step 5: Launch any internet browser of your choice and enter 192.168.1.1 IP address in the URL bar of the internet browser.

Step 6: In the next step, you need to enter the default login credential details in the respective field. 

Step 7: Once you logged in successfully to the Linksys router, tap on the Setup button and then modify the name of your Linksys router from default to something unique for security purposes. 

Step 8: Tap on the save button to apply the changes made by you. Tap on the Next button to proceed further.

Step 9: Hit on the “Wireless” option and change the wireless network name. Click on the SSID broadcast option and set it to disable. 

Step 10: Choose the “Wireless security” tab located at the top of the screen. You have to select the WEP menu under the security mode drop-down menu. 

Step 11: Go to the Passphrase box and then enter the unique password. Note down the passphrase safely to a paper. 

Step 12: Select the Generate menu button and after that save all the changes made by you in settings.

Step 13: Mac filtering is mainly used for router security. If you want to enable the Mac filtering on the Linksys router then select the “Wireless Mac filter”. Hit on the Enable button. 

Step 14: Next, click on the “Edit Mac Filter List” and fill the Mac address to your system and the other devices that you wish to connect with the wireless network of the Linksys router. 

Step 15: Choose the Administration option and fill the new password for your router. Ensure that the password should be differ from WEP encryption. 

Step 16: Hit on the Save button to confirm the changes made by you.
